taking up residence at a local park near you or at a beer drinking establishment. Cheers !

2022 Practice Wednesday 5:00 pm

Come out, Wednesday evenings at Lake Meyer Park from 5:00pm we are having intro sessions of Aussie Rules Football for all ages. Men, women and teenagers are all invited to give it a try.

Aussie Rules football being a large team field sport will help with your general fitness and mobility, however, at these first sessions of 2022 learning how to kick and handball the 'footy' will be our main focus.

As we move towards playing games here in Savannah we truly believe joining us playing Aussie Rules football will be the best decision you will make this year.

What is AFL Football?

AFL or Australian Rules Football is a game that has been unique to Australia since 1858, until now.

Australian Football or just "Footy" as it is commonly called by the Aussies or the now passionate Americans, is a game that combines the best of many other sports. It is probably the Swiss Army Knife of team sports. It is amazing !

The Savannah Hurricane is HERE

The Savannah Hurricane team is one of the USAFLs newest clubs. Born out of the need to have more teams in the "South" and with the passion of two locals that have played Aussie Rules football before, the Hurricane is here to stay.

We are also pleased to have hosted the USAFL Regional Championioships in 2021, with clubs attending from around the SE of USA.

The Magnolia Cup

The inaugural Magnolia Cup Aussie Rules Football Tournament was held in July 2021. Teams include the long established Atlanta Kookaburras and the newest Florida team the Jacksonville Saints.

It was two years prior since the last Australian Rules Football games were played here here in Savannah.

So come out Lake Mayer Park 5.00pm Wednesdays and join in learning about this great game of Aussie Rules Football. Men and Women welcome of all ages and fitness levels.

Savannah Australian Rules Football Invitational Game - June 29th 2019

The first ever game of Australian Rules Football in Savannah was played at Daffin Park on Saturday June 29th 2019. Players from the Savannah Hurricane, Atlanta Kookaburras, Rome Redbacks and Jacksonville Saints all came out for the historic first ever game.

The crowd relaxed in the shade as you do in Savannah, with some cool drinks, sat back and watched 4 quarters of a fantastic running, action packed Aussie Rules Football, a game most had never seen before.

So join us in 2022, reach out and come to practice and you too can be a part of sporting history, the next time.

We have both played Aussie Rules Football before for the Nashville Kangaroos and the Atlanta Kookaburras respectively. But since we are both now here in Savannah we thought why not start a team here. So is the beginning of the Savannah Hurricane.

The game is so much fun and really is a game that has everything. Once you play you will be hooked.
